NOT MY WILL

Matthew 26:39: “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will but as you will.”

Jesus wanted the ‘cup’ (crucifixion) to be taken from Him, but the question is, why? Was it because He didn’t want to suffer the humiliation, pain and suffering of the cross, or was it because He knew He would be separated from the Father, even if it were only temporary?

Des it matter, the answer? No, because the fact remains that He was willing to do both for us; i.e., those who have or will accept His free gift of salvation. This is a committed love that I cannot fully appreciate, perhaps because it is supernatural. There are so many things Jesus did for us that the only way to appreciate them is to know what they are and the only way to know what they are is to:

THE SHEEP AND THE GOATS

Matthew 25:31-46: There are two widely accepted interpretations of this passage but the issue is to the timing as to when the judgment occurs. Rather than to major on the immaterial let’s focus on the real message; is one in or is one out?

I don’t mean to be funny (humor is acceptable) about this point because it is, or should be, a very serious concern to all; righteous (saved) vs. unrighteous (unsaved). It is apparent that a test of one’s spiritual state is how they treat God’s people (Jews) during this period (the end times). The saved will treat them kindly and the unsaved will treat them harshly. This is almost akin to faith and works as explained in James 2. There is such a faith as mere intellectual (believing in, but not accepting) and this type of faith is, in fact, dead as James tells us.

People will take Scripture like this out of context and create unnecessary confusion, attempting to demonstrate that good works are necessary for salvation, which is not the truth. Let’s be sheep by creating a personal relationship with Jesus and be saved.

WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME?

There is but one answer; NOW. In Matthew 24:3 the Disciples asked Jesus; ”…and what will the sign of your coming be?” In Matthew 24:42 Jesus says; “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”

One of two possible scenarios exists; believer’s will either go home before the Lord comes or He will come for His Church while we still alive. Which ever occurs first my question is whether of not you will be ready. What do you need to do to be ready?

Those who have already accepted Jesus are assured of their place in Heaven; therefore they must keep watch, as Jesus told them in verse 42. To keep watch is to be vigilante, i.e., to be living in such a way as would make you proud of what you are doing should He come before we go.

If you have yet to make your decision for Jesus I would suggest that NOW is as good a time as any. A simple faith prayer of confession to Him and acceptance of what Jesus died for on the cross and you will be born again into His family and is all that is necessary.

THE SEVEN WOES

Sometimes I feel obligated to render a personal opinion when I read certain Scripture such as Matthew 23 and the seven woes.

I believe the Lord was and is talking to the religious community. I have always rendered my opinion of religion to be a sure way not to please God. I am not going to criticize any particular religion except to say we do not need any more than what we find in the Holy Bible. In the Old Testament days God used Prophets to speak to the people, now that we are in the Church Age (since the resurrection of Jesus) God speaks to us through His Holy Word.  Whatever we need to know is in His Living Word. I just learned you can have Google search your question in the Bible. How easy is that?
