THE RICH RULER
Luke 18: The parable of the rich young ruler is representative of many who are convinced that what they do or believe in is sufficient to find their way into Heaven. Within the religious community it is unfortunate for those whose faith and trust is in the doctrine of that religion. I remember writing about a Catholic priest who, after three months of reading the Bible got so convicted of the Word that he got down on his knees and asked Jesus to be his Savior. His faith and trust was in the church doctrine; his relationship is now with Jesus.
Can you imagine what happens when, with a sincere heart and desire to know the truth, you open the Word of God? It’s difficult to believe the above story because the individual was a priest and one would think he knew all about the Bible. Perhaps he might have had an intellectual understanding but that doesn’t work with God.
God wants us to approach Him as little children, innocent and trusting. In verse 17 Jesus tells the Disciples, “I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
‘Today might just be the day to be a ‘little child.’
